On 27 January, the government announced changes to allow travellers to New Zealand on a visitor visa to work remotely for overseas-based employers or undertake overseas-based self-employment while in New Zealand. These changes apply to all visitors, including:
• People who are travelling on a passport from a visa waiver country who require an electronic travel authority
• Tourists
• People visiting family
• Partners and guardians on longer-term visitor visas
These changes mean that visitors can stay in New Zealand as a digital nomad and keep in touch with work back home, without breaching their visa conditions.
