At McMillan&Co. many of our senior lawyers have chaired and/or served on school boards of trustees. We have a wealth of knowledge about how schools work as well as how they sometimes don’t work so well, and we have advised school principals and boards throughout Otago on all aspects of education law.
We are also parents; we understand how stressful it is when a student faces disciplinary processes at school and how difficult it can be as a parent to advocate positively and effectively for your child in the face of the challenging behaviour that got them into this mess in the first place. We can relieve parents of that stress, leaving them free to focus on offering much-needed moral support. We work with families to advocate for their child or young person through the disciplinary procedure, to ensure that fairness and due legal process is followed and to minimise the amount of time spent off school.
