Ruth completed her law degree at Auckland University of Technology in 2019. After graduating she worked in a specialist Auckland immigration practice for several years, advising individual and business clients on applications for accredited employer work visas,  and skilled migrant, partner, business, and investor visas. Ruth has also appeared in the Immigration Protection Tribunal for clients seeking visas on humanitarian grounds.

In 2023 Ruth moved to Masterton where she practiced in Family and Employment Law for 3 years. Working in a busy provincial practice she gained broad experience, discovering and honing her advocacy skills in both jurisdictions.

Wanting to find one role that allowed her to build on her skills and experience in family and employment law as well as continuing to practice immigration law, Ruth moved to Dunedin to join McMillan&Co. in 2026. Originally from the north of England, she was unphased by the rumours of cold winters in the south of NZ, and quickly embraced all that Otago has to offer.

Outside of work Ruth enjoys road trips with her partner, and getting out into nature to find a hill to walk up or a lake to swim in. She is a competitive bodybuilder, and a talented baker and decorator of cakes.
